Kitsune
Kitsune are mischievous, trickster fox spirits in Japanese folklore. They are supernatural shape-shifting beigns able to morph between human and animal forms.
They are intelligent, playful and free.
They are also messengers to the gods and protectors of Shinto shrines and temples.
Often they may take the form of a beautiful female which reminds us of similarities to selkies in Celtic folklore.
Foxes have ancient symbolism based in many different cultures of cunning, wisdom and adaptability. Living in London we encounter foxes daily, sleeping in the sunny patches of our gardens, taking over the streets at night, braving the urban sprawl and human presence.
They have such soulful, bewitching faces with the beauty of the wild still in them which is what we've tried to capture in this carved pendant.
