A Midsummer Night's Moon

A Midsummer Night's Moon

£220.00Price

Over hill, over dale,
Thorough bush, thorough brier,
Over park, over pale,
Thorough flood, thorough fire,
I do wander every where,
Swifter than the moon's sphere;
And I serve the fairy queen,
To dew her orbs upon the green:
The cowslips tall her pensioners be;
In their gold coats spots you see;
Those be rubies, fairy favours,
In those freckles live their savours:
I must go seek some dew-drops here
And hang a pearl in every cowslip's ear.
Farewell, thou lob of spirits: I'll be gone;
Our queen and all her elves come here anon.

- William Shakespeare
A Midsummer Night's Dream - Act II, Scene I

This beautiful fairy monologue from Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' has haunted our dreams for years and is the direct inspiration for this design.
We were inspired by the imagery of the fairies hanging tiny pearl earrings of dewdrops in the sleeping flowers.

We studied the botanical anatomy of the cowslip flower in detail before creating it in wax to accent the focal agate stone. In another of Shakespeare's texts 'Romeo + Juliet', Mercutio describes Queen Mab (the fairy midwife) as 'no larger than an agate stone' which led us to source beautifully unique agates as the focal stone.

These Montana agates are each completely unique with natural inclusions that can look like branches, feathers, leaves, or even butterflies! The finishing touch is the tiny seed pearl dewdrop dangling in the cowslip's ear - pure magic.

As our brand is called Petite Lune (Little Moon) studio, we thought we'd love to have a growing signature capsule collection that showcases the moon from various inspirations and incantations, this is one of the first designs in this collection.
