Memento Mori

£156.00Price

We gather a lot of inspiration from antique jewellery. And oh dear what a feast of beautiful inspirations there is! One particular type of jewellery that has fascinated us for some time is Memento Mori jewellery.
'Memento mori' is a latin phrase meaning: “Remember you must die” and it refers more generally to an object kept as a reminder of the inevitability of death. The first Memento Mori pieces appeared as early as the 14th century and have traditionally almost always incorporated a skull or skeleton in their design. Whilst at first glance, it may seem like a rather morbidly sad piece, ultimately it is also a reminder of cherishing the moment and embracing the different potentials before it’s too late.

This particular ring is our first interpretation of a Memento Mori ring and is a very personal piece for us. The ring was hand carved from wax to create an ornamented pedestal to show off the focal hand painted ceramic skull, set in-between two love hearts. A lot of details and a lot of love were put in this special ring. Maybe more colourways to come…
