The Fallen Star

The Fallen Star

PriceFrom £70.00

Once upon a time there was a princess who came of age to be married, now she was extremely independent and was not happy about this idea at all but her family insisted.  So she decided to set an impossible task agreeing to marry the first person to bring her a fallen star as a gift.

Many years went by, princes and dignitaries brought her all kinds of exotic gifts from far flung lands but none were a fallen star. The princess was delighted that her plan was working, until one day a young man rode up to the castle asking for his reward of the princess' hand in marriage.

The princess came down into the courtyard where the young man waited next to an old apple tree. As she watched he took his bow and arrow and shot a ripe apple from the tree. As it fell he caught it in his hand and sliced it open to reveal the hidden star pattern of the seeds inside the apple. She conceded the bet was won they were married and lived happily ever after.

This a story that sparkles in the hazy depths of my childhood memories though I have since tried to search for the original source in vain.

The symbol of the apple in this fairytale symbolises to us ingenuity and creativity, similar to the apple falling on Isaac Newton's head sparking the idea of gravity. We've taken some liberties with the apple design to best display the hidden star, such a simple and beautiful quirk of nature.
